Please plan on joining the New Year’s Levee at Town Hall from noon to 2:00 on Sunday, January 1st. It is a great opportunity to meet with members of Council and learn about some of the issues that are on the horizon for 2017 here in the Village. Some extra excitement for this year includes the “official” raising of the new Village of Westport Sesquicentennial Flag at 1:00 by the Royal Canadian Legion’s Colour Party. And – fingers crossed – I hope that there are two surprise guests. The designer of the Westport Flag is hoping to join us and see her design flying outside Town Hall. And if all of the details come together prior to January 1st, the new CAO/Clerk for the Village will be here. Stay tuned…..
The Village has contracted our water and water water operations with Ontario Clean Water Agency. You may have seen their trucks at the water plant on Concession St today. With the court case just behind us and with a full understanding of the amount of regulatory compliance required for both the water and waste water systems, Council has made a decision to move in this direction. The short term contract duration of six months will permit Council to undertake a thorough review of service delivery options before embarking on a long term operations commitment.
Mr. David Wallond has worked for the Village as our water/waste water operator since January 2014 and we wish him the best of luck in the future.
Last May, a Mayor’s Task Force was formed to plan events to celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial . Any member of the public was invited to participate and the team has put together a fabulous variety of events that cover the whole year!
The birthday party begins on January 1st with the Mayor’s New Year’s Levee at Town Hall. Lots of food, friends and fun. It all begins at noon and runs until 2:00 p.m. Both MP Gord Brown and MPP Steve Clarke are joining us for the levee. Special Surprise? Raising our new Westport Sesquicentennial Flag.
And on Sunday, January 15, you can join Sir John A MacDonald and Lady Agnes for tea and hear what our Founder has to say about Confederation when he gives one of his historic speeches. Meet Sir John A at the Legion between 2 and 4:00 p.m. Free will offering.
February birthday events are being finalized and will offer lots of winter fun.
After being elected as Warden of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville for 2017 & 18 this morning (December 14), I was sworn by Counties’ Counsel and observed by the current Warden, Mayor David Gordon. Photo of the current Counties Council.
What a great event – the annual Ecumenical Choir singing beautiful Christmas music to a packed house at Knox Presbyterian Church. The performance also included soloists and instrumentalists. Mrs Joanne Lambert is the Choir Director who manages to turn out amazing concerts year after year.
St Paul’s Anglican Church’s Kim Bonner, Ross Lambert and Robin Jones are proud members of the choir.
