REMINDER – Tomorrow (Tuesday) is NOT garbage day

September 1st marked the beginning of our new Solid Waste & Recycling contract.  Starting September 4, 2019 solid waste and recycling pick up will BOTH be on WEDNESDAYS.

Rules are the same:

  • Solid Waste & Recycling must be at the curb on Wednesdays by 7:30 a.m.
  • Solid Waste must be in a clear bag with a “Westport” tag (or a “Westport” bag if you still have them)
  • Bags may not weigh more than 40 lbs
  • Non-compliant items will be left at the curb

You should have received in your mail box a new schedule for recycling.  This week it is Paper and Cardboard pick up, next week glass/metal & plastic.  Here is the link to the schedule on the Village website.

Mayor Robin Jones

We’re Canadians – a little rain never stopped a good street party!

Thanks to everyone who came, stayed, ate, visited and sang along with Henry.  Next year – it will be the 2nd Annual Community Pot Luck block party.  Thank you to everyone for your generosity to FOTA, who wanted to raise enough to put some new heaters in the change rooms this fall … and they raised enough for three heaters.  Wow .

Great job Henry Norwood – you have so much talent.

Special thanks to Village Town Hall Staff – Paul, Patti and Peter ( and their partners) for all of your efforts.

Line painting on County Rd #10 north of Westport

Many of you have contacted me with safety concerns due to the delay in centre and bike lane line painting on the new surface of County Road #10.  I drove it last week on a wet dark night and understand your concerns.

I spoke to the Director of Public Works for the Counties, Mr Arup Mukherjee, yesterday and he advised that the scheduled date for the line painting is August 22.  Let’s hope for a dry morning that day so the work can be completed.

Call anytime with concerns or questions.  – 9195

Invitation to a Blanket Exercise sponsored by Better Together Circle.

On Monday, August 26 from 7:00 – 9:00 at North Crosby, you will have an opportunity to participle in a Blanket Exercise sponsored by Better Together Circle. In this workshop blankets are used to represent land and the historic process of colonization and its effects on modern day relationships between Indigenous and non-indigenous people. If you plan to attend you will need to register as space is limited.   We will be offering refreshments and although it is a free event we will be accepting donations to help offset costs. (see poster below for contact information)

Better Together Circle is a group newly formed, in June 2019, after completing an Indigenous Studies course given by Queens University Prof. Bob Lovelace.  They are a volunteer non for profit group interested in several areas, including Reconciliation, Resilience, Sustainability,  Environment and Climate Change & its effect on the Environment.

They are working with Indigenous and Non Indigenous Peoples to educate, (affect) support positive change, improve our way of life, involve the community in learning events & social events, (develop and implement) encourage change in how we live together, and care for the Environment, the Earth and each other.  As the Group evolves, they may include additional areas of interest from participants.
