CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL “BUNDY” SEED 2018-19 CCHL2 GM OF THE YEAR WESTPORT RIDEAUS!

“Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 is proud to announce that longtime Westport Rideaus‘ General Manager Michael “Bundy” Seed is the winner of the 2018-19 CCHL2 GM of the Year award.

Seed, a Frankville native, is finishing off his 23rd season in the Westport Rideaus organization. He started his career with the Rideaus as an Assistant Coach under former Head Coach Jeff Snow in the 1995-96 season. In the 2000-01 season, he took over as the Westport Rideaus’ General Manager and has been there ever since, compiling 484 wins, five first place finishes in the EOJHL and one finals appearance.

This season, the first time winner of the GM of the Year award has helped the Westport Rideaus to their 20th consecutive playoff appearance after clinching a playoff berth last week. Westport is currently battling for the first place seed in the Richardson Division with the Perth Blue Wings, Brockville Tikis and Carleton Place Jr Canadians.

Smiths Falls Bears and Westport Rideaus’ Owner Joshua Filoso said that he is very deserving of this award.

“He has not only managed this team to the playoffs, but he has coached the Rideaus’ to a top playoff contender. The Smiths Falls Bears and Westport Rideaus could not be happier for Mike.”

“Bundy is a first class GM and overall first class guy. He’s well known around the league and around the hockey world. Bundy has put together a team that has the ability to hit the ground running once the playoffs start. In Westport, Bundy is not only the GM but the go to man for everything the Rideaus do and he does a fantastic job doing so,” said Filoso.

The Westport Rideaus’ have three more games left on their schedule. They will take on Brockville, Athens and Winchester in the final week of the season.”

WESTPORT has been named Ireland’s sixth best home holiday destination.

The selection was made by readers of the Irish Independent as part of annual awards scheme.

Westport was described as ‘a small town with a big heart’ and the ideal location for a weekend away.

Placed ahead of Westport were Kerry, the overall winners, Galway  Cork, Wexford  and Donegal.

All of the selected destination were lauded for ‘doing tourism the right way.’

Licensed Cannabis Retail Stores approved by Westport Council

The issue of whether Council will permit licensed cannabis retail stores was decided on January 8, 2019.  After much consultation, including a letter placed in every Westport post office mail box encouraging residents & business owners to share their opinions with members of Council, Councillors were unanimous in approving licensed cannabis retail stores in the Village subject to complying with all AGCO requirements and proper zoning.

Councillors, during the debate on licensed cannabis retail stores on January 8th, shared that they were surprised at the lack of concerns reported by residents and business owners on the subject – particularly in response to the letter.  Many people raised their lack of support for the federal government’s decision for legalization of cannabis.  However in light of that decision, the majority of people felt there was no reason to deny someone from setting up a legal licensed cannabis retail store.

If you have read the news this week, you will know that due to a lack of supply of legal cannabis the Ontario government has stated that it will only authorize 25 licensed cannabis retail stores to open on April 1.   Who knows if and when a licensed cannabis retail store will open in Westport, however I wanted you to know that all Councillors took great pains to be informed and to learn what the constituents of the village wanted to see in Westport.

New Year’s Day LEVEE – what fun!

Members of Westport Council want to thank everyone for making today’s Levee at Town Hall such a success.  Lots of friends and neighbours to visit with, hats off to Jackalyn Brady for her efforts in getting things organized, Kudos to Neil, Martha and Kyle for the delicious food and a huge round of applause for the The Edge band members Ann Savage, Graeme Crabb and Jeff Earl.  wow – what a great show.IMG_7870
