SAVE THE DATE! Westport Volunteer Clean up Day – Saturday, May 13

If you have a few hours on Saturday, May 13 please consider helping us get the Village cleaned up for the long week-end!  For the past couple of years, volunteers have spent a couple of hours sweeping and raking in the Village.  The morning starts at 9:30 with coffee and baked goods at Town Hall when you register.  And after a couple of hours, finish off with a BBQ at the Spring at noon.   It is true that many hands make light work.  Please bring a rake, bright coloured shirt and work gloves.  We will supply the rest.

Meeting with Eastern Region MPs on Parliament Hill – May 1, 2017

As the Warden of Leeds & Grenville, I am a member of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC).  The Caucus includes all of the Upper Tier Wardens of Eastern Ontario and is an advocacy group for issues shared across eastern municipalities.  Annually, the EOWC meets with the MPs who represent the federal ridings in eastern Ontario.  This morning we met with these women and men in Ottawa and discussed, among many things, infrastructure.  Our own MP Gord Brown joined the meeting.  Also in the below photo is Mr Andy Brown, CAO for Leeds & Grenville.

Beef Dinner Fund Raiser for the park was a huge success

Last night, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to Council hosted a dinner to raise funds for the ongoing work at the Lockwood Memorial Field and Park.  The dinner was held at the Lions Club Beach House and it was the perfect venue on a warm spring day.

Hats off to the Kudrinko and Pringle families who donated all of the food.  Seriously – thank you for your generosity.

Great work pulling this together with Councillor Frank Huth leading the way.  There was a host of volunteers helping to ensure that everyone enjoyed a great supper and silent auction.  Thank you to all of you.

And to the members of our community, who always come through and donate generously, you raised over $2700 towards this year’s improvement to the park, which is a children’s playground.  Lockwood Foundation will match that amount, so overall the dinner has raised $5400.

What an amazing night, thank you to everyone.

2nd Annual Merrickville Heritage Classic

Spent the early morning in Merrickville with Merrickville-Wolford Mayor David Nash, MP Gord Brown and MPP Steve Clark.  Fantastic event – over 300 participants.  Congratulations to the organizers.

Steve is going to the Lions Club Beach House tonight for dinner and support the Lockwood Memorial Field and Park fund raiser.  If you see him, perhaps you could shake his hand and thank him for all of the support he has given the Village this past year in regard to the waste water treatment plant.Merrickville.JPG
