I have heard from many of you asking how much we raised for FORT MAC yesterday? The street teams were out in force, the silent auction had 85 donations!, there was a steady line up of people lined up wanting to make donations directly to the Canadian Red Cross and other ways people gave. I know that there is still money coming in from other initiatives that occurred yesterday, so you will need to wait for the final amount. I can tell you that when I left the event at 10:00 last night, the amount was over $18,000. WOW! WOW! WOW! So stand by for the final amount, which will be doubled by the federal government. Well done everyone and thank you. You do it with PRIDE in our village, our community and our country!

UPDATE – Garbage Bags to Garbage Tags
At last night’s Council meeting the decision was made that, effective July 1, the large Westport garbage bags will no longer be available. Garbage tags will be used on large clear garbage bags after that date. You can continue to use large Westport garbage bags, if you have them after July 1, without attaching a tag. Small Westport garbage bags will be available until 2018. We are in discussions with three downtown Westport businesses and expect to announce in the next few days where the tags will be available for purchase after July 1.
Hard Working Clean-Up Crew makes a Huge Difference
Thank you to all the volunteers who came out yesterday morning and raked, swept and bagged garbage and leaves from the streets and island. A particularly strong shout out to the Baptist Church “Odd Job” squad who tackled the important, but smelly, job of cleaning up the shoreline on the island and to Chris and Beth who picked up all of the garbage bags. To everyone who helped or cheered us on – PRIDE in our community is our motto.
