Update on water pipe leak on Concession St.

The repair has been completed and we DID NOT lose pressure in the water system. So no boiling water order is being issued. There is still more work to finish the repair, but that will occur tomorrow. Right now the water tower is filling up and things are back to normal. Don’t be concerned when you see the crews out there tomorrow. Many thanks to Chief Jay and the Westport fire fighters … and to the many who emailed me ready to volunteer for the canvass on such a lousy night.

Broken water pipe on Concession St

As you may be aware, there have been people working on a broken pipe on Concession most of the day. The water had to be shut off with the valve closest to the water plant, which means we have been using the water in the tower.  The work has been proceeding slowly on Concession, however we are hopeful that it will be done within the next few hours.

If the repair is not done before the water tower empties (and the Engineer has calculated that we still have 5 or 6 hours) – two things will happen.  The first is that there will be no water until the repair is completed and pressure is restored to the system .  When the system totally shuts down, a 48 hour boil water advisory is put in place. The crew is working hard to get the pipe fixed before we get to that point.

Should we get to the boil water stage, firefighters and volunteers will be knocking on doors to canvass each household after 8:00 p.m. tonight.

I will keep you updated as the evening proceeds.  Please call if you have concerns.

Beautiful Morning for a Walk in the’Port

The Village is a busy place this morning.  In addition to the birds and critters, Desi and I met up with lots of people on our walk.  It is the quintessential winter morning – fresh snow, sunshine & blue sky and just below 0 degrees.  I want to send a big shout out to Craig, Jamie and the rest of the crew – roads and sidewalks are in great shape.  Thank you from all of us who head out every morning for fresh air and exercise.

Happy 150th Birthday, Canada!!!!

It was great to see so many people out to the Levee at Town Hall on New Year’s Day.  Lots of visiting with old friends and neighbours and welcoming new residents and our new CAO.  Special thanks to Councillor Brady for her help in making the day a success.

We sang O Canada once the flag was in place.  MPP Steve Clarke commented later on how robust we sang our national anthem.  That’s hometown pride, Steve!

Please plan on joining the New Year’s Levee at Town Hall from noon to 2:00 on Sunday, January 1st.  It is a great opportunity to meet with members of Council and learn about some of the issues that are on the horizon for 2017 here in the Village.  Some extra excitement for this year includes  the “official” raising of the new Village of Westport Sesquicentennial Flag at 1:00 by the Royal Canadian Legion’s Colour Party.  And – fingers crossed – I hope that there are two surprise guests.  The designer of the Westport Flag is hoping to join us and see her design flying outside Town Hall.  And if all of the details come together prior to January 1st, the new CAO/Clerk for the Village will be here.  Stay tuned…..
