Thanks to everyone who supported the Village in last year’s Aviva Insurance voting, we received a $10K grant for accessible playground equipment. It is being installed today in Lockwood Park. No tax dollars were used for any of the additions or changes in Lockwood. A Trillium grant provided funding for the stage, an Aviva grant covered the new playground equipment and the Lockwood Foundation donated $25K and matched funds ($75K) raised by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has contributed … the park has become a very popular place to spend time.
Come by the park later this afternoon and take a swing or a turn on the new equipment.
The Village is part of the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville (UCLG) contract for spring street cleaning. Apparently, the wet spring has played havoc with the contractor’s schedule. Once we hear when the street cleaners will be in the Village, I will blog to let you know. I know this is frustrating to everyone, particularly after a winter that required so much sand to be used due to the ice. Hang in there!
Good news. I received the following information from the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville:
Please be advised County Road 10 will be open to local traffic as of 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, Friday, May 31, 2019. The speed limit is still restricted to 50 km/hr. for the duration of the construction.
The Rideau District High School is hosting an exchange this week with students from Swan Valley Secondary School (Manitoba). Our Rideau students traveled to Manitoba in September of 2018.
TODAY is their visit to Westport and Cynthia and John Pringle have arranged a great day for them:
4pm-Hike on Foley Mountain
5pm-tour of the museum
6pm-BBQ in Lockwood Park hosted by the Village of Westport.
Please give them a hometown Westport wave today if you see them and plan on visiting with the students at Lockwood at the end of their visit to our Village.
Thanks to Cynthia and John for making this day possible for the students and for us.
Thank you for all of your hard work, year after year, in the beautification of our Village. The hanging plants look great. The heart felt thank yous go to those volunteers who have spent countless hours in the dirt building up our gardens. They are all stunning and the Library and Information Centre have never looked this professional. Well done, well done.
