Sounds of spring this week in Westport? Construction!!!!

Another week of hammering, sawing and heavy machinery chugging in the ‘Port.  It sounds amazing, doesn’t it?  Home owners are fixing roofs, adding additions, and finishing projects.  Fetch Murphy Way was paved so no more wash outs in the next heavy rain. The foundation of the new basketball court was constructed and is waiting for the concrete.  The framing of the covered stage is also underway in the park.  (Remember – neither the basketball court nor covered stage is funded through tax dollars, rather by fund raising and grants.)

What an exhilarating feeling in the Village!

Official opening of the stage will take place on July 1.  More details to follow.

And so the building of the stage begins….

I previously advised that the Village had been successful in its grant application to the Ontario Trillium Fund that will cover 100% of the costs to build a covered stage in Lockwood Park.  Scott Blair Construction began the work yesterday.  Watch its progress over the next few weeks on the George St side of the park.  It is our intention (that would be both Scott’s and the Village’s:-) to hold the Grand Opening on July 1st!  Stay tuned.

“Whole lotta shakin'” going on in Westport this spring!

What a spring we are having in the ‘Port.  Lots of properties are being sold, several of which have been on the market for some time.  Best wishes to those who are moving to other places – please come back and visit.   And a big home town welcome to the new residents and business owners!

Several new businesses have set up shop and we thank you for deciding to take that big step in OUR Village.  Please take time to welcome the newcomers at:

Salon 204 – Hair and Nail Salon (Church St)

Trinity Artisan Boutique (Church St)

The Black Pearl Gallery (Church St)

dancing moon Gallery (Spring St) (Tara and John rented in 2017, but purchased the studio property in 2018)

Westport Brewery (Main St) will open later this summer.

Please drop by and welcome the new owners of Vanilla Bean and perhaps have a cone while you are visiting.

In addition, two of our cornerstone business owners decided to reinvest in their businesses and both have created larger, “customer centred” floor plans.  Amazing and deeply appreciated – Paul @ Herlehy Home Building Centre and Tracey @ Westport Village IDA Pharmacy.  Congratulations.

Happy Birthday to Jake by the lake: A life is Good Genuine Neighbourhood Shoppe.  Cynthia and John Pringle held a wonderful birthday party yesterday (May 19) to celebrate 10 years of business in Westport.

We live and work in the best place in Canada.  Be proud!

Successful Village Clean-up on May 12! Thank you Volunteers!

A little coffee to get us going and with the promise of pizza when we finished, 30 volunteers headed out from Town Hall on a sunny Saturday May morning.  Armed with rakes, gloves and lots of enthusiasm, they raked, trimmed, and swept away the last of winter!

Here is the crew, minus a few shy fire fighters! (yes, that confused me a bit as well).  Thank you to our photographer!
